The latest support includes 1.7 million doses through the COVAX mechanism. The US Embassy said there was still much work to be done, and pledged to continue working with Vietnam to support and ensure a safe and strong recovery from the pandemic.

The administration of US President Joe Biden has pledged to become the world’s vaccine arsenal in the fight against COVID-19.

In September last year, President Biden announced that he would donate more than 1 billion doses of vaccines to countries in an effort to save lives and get out of the pandemic together.

In addition, in early March, in Ho Chi Minh City, US Ambassador to Vietnam Marc Knapper on behalf of the US Department of Defense presented 34 deep freezers to preserve COVID-19 vaccines to the Vietnamese Ministry of Health.

This is the number of deep freezers sponsored for Ho Chi Minh City and southern provinces, among a total of 111 deep freezers that the US Department of Defense provides to the Vietnamese Ministry of Health, with a total value of 1 million USD.

It is known that this type of deep freezer can reach temperatures from minus 80 degrees Celsius to minus 20 degrees Celsius, holding 175,000 doses of COVID-19 vaccine.

In addition to support from other countries, Vietnam also signed contracts with pharmaceutical companies, including Pfizer, to ensure sufficient vaccine resources for the vaccination campaign.
