Forensic results: Black man was shot in the head by Michigan police and died

At a press conference in Detroit, Michigan, medical examiner Werner Spitz and attorney for the victim’s family Patrick Lyoya announced that the autopsy results showed that the 26-year-old had been shot once. and the policeman put the gun to the back of Lyoya’s head.

“This is now the scientific evidence of this tragic incident, where the victim’s family believes it was a homicide,” civil rights attorney Ben Crump said at a news conference.

Spitz said he found no signs of a struggle such as scratches or bruises on Lyoya’s body and noted that the only wound on Patrick Lyoya’s body was a bullet wound.

Spitz said he could not determine the size of the bullet that was fired, but it was an “extremely powerful bullet” that killed the man.

The death of Lyoya, a Congolese refugee, outraged family members and led to protests in Grand Rapids by activists. Accordingly, this is the latest example of police violence against people of color.

Lyoya’s family is demanding that the US government fire the officer who shot the man dead from the police force and file a criminal complaint against him.

Grand Rapids police were not immediately available to comment on the independent autopsy.
