Foxconn doubles employees in India to speed up iPhone production
Foxconn is said to be nearly doubling the workforce at its Chennai (India) factory to produce various iPhone models due to a significant increase in demand in this market.
According to AppleInsiderFoxconn’s factory in Chennai operates in a special economic zone (SEZ), which offers certain benefits such as hiring more labor.
For example, an area within the SEZ can be used to expand production, but provided that the area produces products that are sold locally in the so-called “tariff area”. domestic” (DTA). An unnamed source said the expansion was in place when part of the factory’s facilities were already responding to increased production, so they needed to add the workforce.
The new production facility is an extension of ‘s 16-hectare factory in Chennai Foxconn. It is not yet known when the new production facility will be operational, and Foxconn has not yet commented on the information.
Previously, Foxconn’s manufacturing facility in Chennai was forced to close by both Apple and the local government following protests over working and housing conditions. Sheet Economic Times of the India revealed that all dorm rooms for workers in dormitories have now reopened.
The Chennai government said Foxconn could return the entire workforce to its dormitories by the first week of May 2022.
