Hanoi urgently directs the case to prevent poor students from taking the 10th grade exam

Last night, public opinion was stirred up by the news that some schools in the city required students who are in grade 9, with poor academic performance, to change schools or commit to not. 10th grade entrance exam.

Regarding this, Vice Chairman of the Hanoi People’s Committee Chu Xuan Dung assigned the Department of Education and Training to assume the prime responsibility for, and coordinate with the People’s Committees of districts, towns and relevant units in verifying, clarifying information, and strictly handling it. violations, if any, at the same time must report to the City People’s Committee on the implementation results.

It is not until now that this phenomenon has caused a stir in public opinion. Every year, at the time when students are about to enter the 10th grade exam, many parents angrily complain about being encouraged and forced by teachers not to let their children take the 10th grade exam.

Many people believe that this arises due to the emulation score calculation of the education sector when taking the exam results into 10 high schools to evaluate emulation or ranking schools, and schools may also take exam scores into 10 high schools. to evaluate emulation for teachers (depending on the results of the 10th test scores of students in their class).

However, the Hanoi Department of Education and Training once affirmed that the Department did not include the results of the 10th grade entrance exam into the emulation evaluation criteria for units. The policy of Hanoi city that has been maintained for many years is to create the most favorable conditions for all eligible and aspirational students to participate in the 10th grade public high school entrance exam.

Head of Education Department must be responsible if there is a situation of ‘forcing students not to take the 10th grade exam’

This morning, the Hanoi Department of Education and Training has also directed to request the Heads of Education and Training Departments of districts, towns to review, check, verify, and strictly handle the above situation; at the same time, thoroughly understand and direct in writing to all secondary schools in the area to immediately stop mobilizing and propagating students who do not register for the 10th grade exam in this school year and subsequent school years.

The heads of the Department of Education and Training must be held responsible if the above phenomenon occurs.

According to the Department of Education and Training, studying and registering for admission to high schools are the rights and needs of students and students’ parents. In the streamlining work after the lower secondary level, the school must orient the students clearly so that they can make a suitable, non-coercive choice.

As noted by PV, this morning, one of the guidelines for considering graduating from junior high school in the 2021-2022 school year and enrolling in the 10th grade of high school in the 2022-2023 school year of the Cau Giay District Education and Training Department is the requirement that Secondary schools absolutely must not force or encourage students with average or weak academic performance to transfer schools or not to register for the 10th grade entrance exam.

If this happens, the school principal is fully responsible.
