Russia calls on Mariupol to surrender, the West “pours” weapons to Ukraine

Thousands of Russian troops backed by artillery and rockets are conducting what Ukrainian officials call the “Battle of Donbas”. Before that, Russia captured the city of Kreminna.

Russia’s nearly eight-week military campaign has gone on longer than expected while still not capturing any major cities, a move that has forced Moscow to refocus on breakaway regions to the east. “The Russian military, based entirely on humanitarian principles, once again asks the soldiers of nationalist battalions and foreign mercenaries to stop their military operations,” the Russian Defense Ministry said in a statement. from 14 o’clock (local time) on April 20 and lay down weapons”.

According to Tass, Colonel Mikhail Mizintsev, head of Russia’s National Center for Defense Management, said that the country’s armed forces have also opened three humanitarian corridors near the Azovstal factory to allow people to evacuate.

Russian and Ukrainian officials have both confirmed that the second phase of the military operation in Ukraine has begun in Donbas. The Ukrainian military says fighting has become more intense across the region.

“In Mariupol, the situation remains serious and unchanged,” President Volodymyr Zelensky said on April 19. Zelensky said Russian forces were blocking corridors and evacuations from the city of Mariupol. President Zelensky said he had met with members of parliament to propose an extension of martial law in Ukraine.
