Russia tests intercontinental ballistic missile
Russian President Vladimir Putin announced the successful test of the Sarmat intercontinental ballistic missile, saying the weapon would make the enemy “think again”.
“Congratulations on the successful launch of the Sarmat intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM). This truly unique weapon will enhance the combat capabilities of our armed forces, ensuring security for Russia from external threats and make those who want to threaten us rethink,” the President Russia Vladimir Putinn sent a message to the army in a televised speech on April 20. He emphasized that Sarmat can hit any target on earth.

The Russian Defense Ministry said the missile test was carried out at the Plesetsk Cosmodrome in the north of the country, adding that the rocket had carried training warheads to the Kura test site in the Kamchatka peninsula, Russia’s Far East. Russia.
“Sarmat is the most powerful missile with the longest target-killing range in the world, which will significantly increase the combat power of our strategic nuclear forces,” the Russian Defense Ministry said.
Sarmat is Russia’s latest ICBM model, introduced by President Putin in early 2018. This is the first time Russia has tested this missile. The Pentagon said Russia had notified the United States in advance of the launch, and Washington assessed the operation as not a threat to it.
Each Sarmat shell is 35.5 m long, 3 m in diameter, carries a fuel weight of 178 tons and reach range over 18,000 km. Last year, a Russian official, who asked not to be named, said that Sarmat’s basic warhead is equivalent to 50 million tons of TNT, equipped with various types of decoys to deceive enemy defenses. The warheads have a maximum speed of 24,900 km/h, use an independent guidance system to hit many different targets, as well as can self-redirect during the revolving phase to avoid interception.
The Sarmat is among the next generation of missiles that the Russian president has called “invincible”, including the Kinzhal and Avangard hypersonic missiles. Russia last month announced that it used Kinzhal missiles for the first time to hit an arms depot in the village of Deliatyn, Ivano-Frankivsk region, western Ukraine.
