Super product Mercedes-Benz EQS officially has an SUV version

Last year, Mercedes launched the EQS sedan, which is seen as the model for a luxury electric car. Now, the German brand continues to launch a completely new 7-seater SUV version to compete in the promising luxury electric SUV segment. With the same name, car owners have the opportunity to drive a larger, more spacious, all-electric vehicle and more importantly, it can compete for the “king” of this segment.

It’s no secret that Mercedes targets competitors like the Tesla Model X or the BMW iX xDrive50i. The EQS SUV is slightly longer and taller than rival SUVs. The specific dimensions of the vehicle’s length x width x height are 5130 x 1955 x 1727 mm. Therefore, the car will provide more spacious interior space than both rivals. The EQS SUV has the same wheelbase as the sedan (3,200 mm) but is 198 mm taller. The second row of seats can be electrically adjusted forward and back up to 127 mm.

In the North American market, the Mercedes-Benz EQS electric SUV will have two versions – similar to the sedan. The standard version will be EQS 450, using PSM electric motors mounted on each bridge for a capacity of 355 horsepower, 568 Nm of torque. Meanwhile, EQS 580 4Matic uses 536 horsepower engine, 858 Nm of torque. In both versions, the engine power of the SUV is greater than that of the sedan. According to the manufacturer, the 580 version is equipped with the Torque Shift feature, which intelligently and continuously distributes torque between the electric motor located at the front and rear axle.

Both are capable of charging with a maximum capacity of 200 kW – a level that is considered fast but not the fastest in the world of electric vehicles. When AC charging, the car will be fully charged after 11.25 hours.

Mercedes says the EQS SUV is capable of going 373 miles or 600 km on a single charge, according to WLTP standards. This range is significantly less than the EQS sedan, which has a range of up to 770 km / h. However, EQS SUV is also equipped with fast charging technology that allows to run an additional 300 km after just 15 minutes of charging – this is a huge plus if users need to use the car continuously for a long journey.

There is no official price for the EQS SUV, but when it goes on sale at the end of the year, the price of the car may not be too different from the sedan version ($102,300). Sure, its price will be higher than BMW’s iX ($83,000). However, in terms of technology, it seems that the EQS SUV is one level above the competition. The Tesla Model X starts at around $115,000. It was considered the pinnacle of technology a few years ago, but when the EQS SUV came out, it seemed like a new king had come to the throne.
