PRAIRIE VIEW, Texas – At least four people were injured when a fire broke out early Wednesday at a campus of a Texas university, officials said.
The fire broke out just before 6 a.m. in a student building at Prairie View A&M University, about 45 miles northwest of Houston. The school said the dormitory had been evacuated and all residents had been explained.
Officials told NBC affiliate KPRC In Houston, a student jumped from a third-floor window and cut his leg, two other students were choked by smoke and a police officer assisting in the evacuation also suffered from smoke inhalation. All were taken by ambulance to nearby hospitals.
Prairie View said the school’s student affairs team is working to assist affected students with relocation arrangements.
