China arrests former justice minister on suspicion of taking bribes

On April 21, China’s Supreme People’s Procuratorate (SPP) issued an arrest warrant for Fu Zhenghua, the country’s former justice minister, on charges of “suspecting bribery and circumvent the law for personal gain”.
According to SPP, the case has now been forwarded to the prosecutor’s office for prosecution, following an investigation by China’s State Supervision Commission.
The official Xinhua news agency reported that Fu Zhenghua was a vice minister of the Ministry of Public Security of China, before serving as justice minister in 2018.
Mr. Fu has been in charge of a number of investigations involving high-profile figures, including an investigation into former Chinese Public Security Minister Zhou Yongkang, who was convicted of corruption. .
Since October 2021, China’s Central Commission for Discipline Inspection has announced that it is investigating Mr. Fu Zhenghua.
According to AFP news agency, at the time of the investigation, Fu was deputy head of the Social and Legal Affairs Committee of the National Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference.
