Convicted of husband, former teacher suddenly ran away in court in Hanoi

On April 21, the Hanoi People’s Court opened a trial for defendant Nguyen Van Chien (SN 1985, former police captain, former teacher of the People’s Police VI Intermediate School under the Ministry of Public Security) for the crime of “scam take property”.

This is the third case that Chien has to appear in court. Being led into the courtroom for trial, defendant Chien suddenly ran away.

The escorting police and the court’s security force coordinated and arrested the accused soon after.

According to the allegation, due to a large amount of debt and inability to pay, the former teacher of the VI People’s Police Intermediate School – the Ministry of Public Security arose the intention to borrow a car and sell it for money.

On August 17, 2019, the defendant made an appointment with his friend, Mr. Q. (SN 1988, in Hai Ba Trung) at the school gate where the defendant taught and then borrowed his Suzuki Swift car, saying that he was going to work.

After that, the defendant drove straight to a pawn shop in Long Bien district and sold it for 300 million VND.

Chien received 200 million in advance, agreed after 30 days, he will carry out procedures to change the car owner’s name, receive the remaining 100 million VND.

The defendant also asked Mr. Q to rent a Ford Ranger pickup truck for his family, lying to hire a colleague. This car was later sold by Chien to the pawnshop owner for 450 million VND. This time, Chien also received 250 million VND in advance.

On September 19, 2019, Mr. Q called to urge Chien to return the pickup truck to the owner, but the defendant used many excuses to beg and did not return the car.

Chien continued to ask Mr. Q to borrow another car to use. Mr. Q agrees, contacting you to borrow a Kia Ranger car for a few days.

The defendant brought this car to the pawn shop as a pledge to redeem the pre-sold Mazda 3 car to the owner.

Three times in a row being cheated, along with many times when he couldn’t get a car, Mr. Q reported it to the police. The investigating agency determined that the value of 3 fraudulent Chien cars was more than 1 billion VND.

After considering, the jury sentenced the defendant to 13 years in prison.

Combined with two previous sentences (9-year prison sentence for “fraudulent appropriation of property” by the Hanoi People’s Court and 4-year prison sentence for “abuse of trust, appropriation of property” by the People’s Court of Hung Yen declared), the court forced Chien to serve a 26-year prison sentence.
