Looking at her sister-in-law’s house and grandchildren living in flames, Ms. Oanh said that this morning, while at home, she received news that her sister-in-law’s family had caught on fire and was being treated at Saint Paul General Hospital.
Hearing the news, she and her son rushed in to visit, but before she could calm down, she received news of the death of 5 family members.
Raising her hand to wipe her tears, Mrs. Oanh choked her voice and said: “My sister has lived a very hard life, but this incident still happened”.
Ms. Oanh said that the two injured people in her family were Mr. Bui Ngoc L. and nephew Bui Quang H.
Mr. L. was seriously burned and was transferred to Hospital 103, the lighter boy continued to be treated at Saint Paul.
According to Ms. Oanh, the house that caught fire was inhabited by 7 people, including her sister-in-law, two nephews, one niece-in-law and three young children.
The house on fire was left by her parents to Mrs. M and her husband. Her brother died early, her sister-in-law raised two sons alone, selling water every day for a living.
Although the family knew that the house did not guarantee fire protection, but due to lack of economic conditions, they had to stay there.

Eyewitnesses recount the time of the fire
On the morning of April 21, present at the scene, Mrs. Dam Thi Thanh, a neighbor of the victim, said that the fire happened around 12:40, when she was sleeping, she heard a loud noise. After a while, hearing the shouts of “fire, fire, help me”, it was not clear whether people or victims were calling for help, so she quickly called her son to run away.
“The whole house was on fire, the smoke was rising, and the fire spread to the motorbike. It was very sad that 5 people died, including 2 children”, Ms. Thanh said.
Another witness, Mr. Nguyen Hong Son (SN 1985, in area B8) said that he woke up because he heard loud screams late at night, he rushed out of the house. Discovering the fire, Mr. Son called for everyone to join in the rescue but was helpless, just standing outside because the fire was too big.
“We couldn’t do anything, it was too hot to enter and we were also afraid that the furniture inside would explode. Meanwhile, the gate of the house was locked. Then, when the functional forces used the rescue ladder, it was timely. guide, bring the remaining 2 people on the tum floor to the ground safely “- Mr. Son said.
Firefighters of Dong Da and Hai Ba Trung districts sent 4 fire engines to the scene to put out the fire. 15 minutes later the fire was extinguished.
Another witness said that around 12:30 a.m., hearing the voices of father and son Bui Ngoc L. (39 years old) and Bui Quang H. (12 years old) standing on the roof calling for help, people rushed to rescue water and wet towels. .
“When I was lying down watching TV, I heard a loud scream, immediately guessed it was L. because I knew his voice. I threw a towel to L. to block the smoke, then brought 2 bowls of water,” the witness said.
When he was rescued, Mr. L. burned his limbs, asked “Can you save the house on fire?”. People around lied “all saved, just go to the ambulance”, Mr. L. did not expect 5 members of his family to die.
The head of the household is Mrs. Doan Thi M., 74 years old, with two sons, Mr. Bui Ngoc L. and Bui Ngoc K.
According to the witness, Mrs. M.’s family was difficult, since the day her husband died, she lived very hard.
“The family is poor, she will accept whatever she gives to sell the junk to earn extra income. We are sad because we can’t do anything about it, the fire is burning,” the witness said.
It is known that inside Mrs. M.’s house there are many flammable materials. Neighbors once told the householder to redo the power line to avoid danger.

Mr. Hoang Trong Anh, another witness, said that when he saw Mrs. M’s house on fire, he called his relatives to break the door. “The fire was not big at first, but then it spread. About 30 minutes later, I heard L. screaming for mom,” Anh said.
