Feeling embarrassed to meet young people working 20 hours/day

Appearing on a recent talk show, President Hoang Nam Tien of FPT Telecom has made its mark thanks to practical sharing about the value of happiness, money and success; rewrite the definition of work and life between his generation and Gen Z.

However, a statement of Mr. Tien is currently attracting much attention and discussion. Specifically, the Chairman of FPT shared: “I am very proud to be able to work 12, 14, 16 hours/day, without Saturday, Sunday, year after year. But I still feel embarrassed when I meet young people who work 20 hours a day.”

Before Mr. Tien’s point of view, many conflicting opinions quickly broke out, divided into two controversial factions.

If you do a lot and make money, you don’t have to be afraid

Half of the opinions said that FPT Chairman’s point of view is partly correct. If you want to advance in your career and achieve success, the effort must be worth it – “you have to work to eat”. Youth has the most ambition and time, if you don’t take advantage of it now, then wait until then.

If you make money, don’t be afraid. You work 20 hours/day but after 3 years you can buy a house, get a car, get a promotion, it is better than working 8 hours/day and 10 years still only enough to eat through the day, the things you like can’t even buy.

– Actually, this point of view is also correct. My boss enters the company every day from 6 am to 10 pm. Even Saturday, Sunday still come to work. In a few years, the boss has risen to the position of head of the department. A big company is not a small company. If you want to advance, you have to accept the plow.

– Do a lot, get a lot is worth it. You are young, have health, have ambitions and time and future, if you don’t take advantage of it right away, it will be too late.

– Of course, but there must be one important thing that is to do a lot, but in the right direction and effectively. But don’t sit at the company for a long time but never finish one job and then say it’s dedication, it’s to do a lot. It is a waste of company resources. Do more, eat more, do it right, eat more efficiently.

– If you’re still young, do you expect to take 2 days off Saturday and Sunday? Working less than 10 hours a day?

Live only once, don’t work “for sale”!

On the contrary, there are many opinions that not too much is good. You need to know how to divide time between work and yourself, because wasted time is hard to get back. The most important thing in work is productivity and logic, not just spending a lot of time will get sweet results.

– Working effectively does not mean going to work from Monday morning to the end of Saturday, resting every Sunday. Many companies and corporations have working schedules until the end of Friday, and at most work overtime on a Saturday of the month, but their businesses still grow, not as sluggish as businesses working 6 days a week. Saying here does not mean that the more hours you work, the more productive you are, but in those 8 hours of work a day, how do you work.

– No matter who you are, you still have to understand the value it brings to you. Working with a mind will have a range, and it is important to accompany a logical cold head.

– Between being diligent and efficient, still choose to work much more efficiently and intelligently.

– Do a lot depends on each person’s ability. My friend works only 9 hours a day, works 5 days a week, and plays sports with colleagues the rest. But still get promoted to high position by working high efficiency in just so many hours. Not much, just enough.

– Knowing is enough. Enjoy, live, don’t work to survive. Life is only once. Spend more time with your family and enjoy it even more meaningfully.

And you, which side are you on in this controversy?
