Video recorded by a group of field reporters following the DPR soldiers attacking Azovstal shows that, when they entered the factory area, they encountered fierce resistance from the Ukrainian defenders there. Therefore, DPR was forced to dispatch a number of tanks and armored fighting vehicles to support the infantry.

With the 125mm cannon mounted on the DPR tank, many defensive points were quickly broken. But with some buildings suspected of harboring civilians, DPR was forced to withdraw the tanks and send BMP-3 armored fighting vehicles using 30mm 2A72 cannons. The destructive power of a 30mm shell will reduce the risk of civilian casualties compared to a tank’s 125mm shell.

In another development, the DPR army on April 20 announced it had evacuated 127 people Ukraine live near the Azovstal steel plant to a safe place. “All the people were evacuated by us to the village of Bezymennoye,” the RT news agency quoted a statement from DPR as saying.
