114 high schools in Ho Chi Minh City recruited 72,800 targets, an increase of more than 5,000 compared to last year, according to the announcement of the Department of Education and Training on the afternoon of April 20.

According to the plan of the People’s Committee of Ho Chi Minh City, the 10th grade enrollment is organized by the method of entrance exam, applicable to students graduating from secondary schools in the city, within the prescribed age. The exam takes place on June 11 and 12. Candidates compete in three subjects Math, Literature and Foreign Language. Students who enter the 10th grade major or the integrated English program will take additional specialized and integrated exams.
Students are allowed to register three aspirations to enter high schools (except for Le Hong Phong, Tran Dai Nghia and Gifted High School). Students are advised to choose a school near their place of residence, to avoid being admitted but not studying. Students are not allowed to change their wishes after being admitted.
The content of the exam is in the middle school curriculum, mainly in grade 9. The test score is the total score of each question in the test, calculated on a 10-point scale, with odd points to 0.25. The admission score is the sum of three test scores, calculated by a factor of one and plus priority points. Successful candidates must complete all three exams and none of them get zero marks.
Every year, Ho Chi Minh City has about 100,000 candidates graduating from secondary school; 80% of them registered for the 10th grade entrance exam. The target of 114 public schools in Ho Chi Minh City is about 65,000-67,000, so about 15,000 students fail the 10th grade every year.
