Israel stops mandating mask wearing in enclosed spaces

This is the second time Israel has made this decision. In June last year, Israel temporarily lifted the requirement to wear masks for two weeks, but then had to re-impose because the number of COVID-19 cases increased.

The decision to end the mandatory regulation of wearing masks in closed spaces in public places in Israel will take effect from this Saturday. The decision also needs to be approved by a National Assembly Oversight Committee. However, wearing a mask is still mandatory in high-risk locations such as on planes, in hospitals and nursing homes.

Since April last year, Israel has abolished the requirement to wear masks outdoors. Currently, the number of daily new cases of COVID-19 in Israel is reported to be about 4,500.
