In testing by AV-Comparatives – an organization that specializes in testing anti-virus software, Microsoft’s tool was completely behind Avast and Bitdefender applications when performing tasks without an Internet connection.
The test was conducted on 10,040 samples of malware, including recent popular software that is endangering users. Malware variants were also aggregated to build a more complete database.
Although Microsoft Defender works very well when connected to the network, however, when working offline, Microsoft’s tool cannot detect nearly 40% of malware. The reason may be because this tool depends on the cloud platform. This made Microsoft Defender the third worst offline antivirus solution on the entire list.
Meanwhile, G Data is capable of detecting up to 98.6% of threats when there is no Internet connection. Followed by Total Defense, VIPRE, Bitdefender with the ability to detect threats up to 97.8% when working offline.
Testing was conducted in early March 2022 on a fully updated 64-bit Windows 10 device.
