According to a survey by VnExpress, at traditional shops and markets in Ho Chi Minh City, early ripening lychees cost between 100,000 and 120,000 VND, double last year. On the contrary, on the online market, the price is cheaper, only from 45,000 – 70,000 VND/kg.

The small traders here said that the early ripening litchi being sold originates from Dak Lak, harvested from the end of April to June. This year, the price of lychee rose sharply due to an increase of 40 percent in transportation and storage costs. %. Moreover, litchi is at the beginning of the crop, so the quantity supplied to the market is still limited.

In high-end fruit stores, early ripening lychees are also sold on the shelves for up to 130,000 VND per kilogram. According to shop owners, prices here are higher than in traditional markets because the fruit is carefully selected.

“This year, the price of lychee has increased sharply to 130,000 VND per kilogram but still attracts customers,” said Ms. Hoa, the owner of a fruit shop on Thong Nhat Street (Go Vap District). She has been selling pink lychee for 2 days now and imports about 10kg per day because of the limited quantity at the top of the crop.

At gardeners, the price of this product is at 40,000-45,000 VND per kg, an increase of 10,000-20,000 VND over the same period. Growers said that the price increased because of the high cost and labor of taking care of this year’s litchi season. On the other hand, litchi is at the beginning of the crop, so the quantity supplied to the market is low.

At a garden house in Buon Ma Thuot, Dak Lak, the gardener said that U Hong lychee is quite attractive this year. At the beginning of the season litchi costs 60,000 VND/kg, and is expected to increase in the near future. The owner of the garden said: “Customers everywhere such as Saigon, Da Nang, and Hanoi placed orders that could not be delivered in time, and each order also ordered a box of cloth”.

Enterprises specializing in purchasing fabrics in Tay Nguyen explained that last year, it was difficult for goods to be sold to other localities due to isolation activities, but now the situation seems to be more stable, so consumption is good, helping to increase prices.
