Ukraine restores 20 fighter jets, Norway sends 100 anti-aircraft missiles

The official did not specify which countries supplied the spare parts for the aircraft Ukrainebut said the United States and other countries were working to help Ukraine “get the parts they need to make the plane work”.

These components help Ukraine to increase the number of military aircraft that can operate in the context of fierce battles in the east and south.

Earlier, Pentagon Press Secretary John Kirby said that Ukraine has received more fighter jets to supplement the current force.

However, a senior US defense official denied, saying that Ukraine did not receive additional aircraft but only received components to fit into existing planes.

The official also said that at least one country is considering sending planes to Ukraine. It is not known which country made this proposal.

The United States has committed to sending Ukraine 16 Mi-17 helicopters, but the administration of President Joe Biden refuses to participate in the transfer of MiG-29 fighters from a third country to Ukraine.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has repeatedly asked countries to transfer to them the MiG-29 Fulcrum aircraft from the Soviet era, which Ukrainian pilots are used to.

Zelensky also suggested that Eastern European countries have a fourth-generation airframe to aid Ukraine, but no country agreed to do so.

On April 20, the official account of the Ukrainian Air Force announced: “Ukraine has not received any new aircraft from our partners. With the support of the US Government, we have received components and spare parts for repair. repair existing aircraft”.

Despite the Russian artillery and missile attacks, the Ukrainian air force was almost intact, although it also suffered some damage.

In early March, a Ukrainian defense official said the country had 56 fighter jets. However, Ukraine does not use much, only making 5-10 trips per day.

On April 20, White House press secretary Jen Psaki said the US would soon announce a new security aid package for Ukraine.

She said that Russia’s test-firing of a new intercontinental ballistic missile would not change the White House’s policy on aid to Ukraine. She said the US will continue to provide security and military support to Kiev.

Norway sends 100 missiles

On April 20, Norwegian Defense Minister Bjørn Arild Gram said that Norway had sent Mistral air defense systems to Ukraine. The system is very effective and will “bring great benefit to Ukraine,” he said.

Norway’s Defense Ministry said it would send Kiev about 100 Mistral missiles and several launchers.

Gram said the Mistral system has been phased out by the Norwegian military, “but it is still modern and effective, so it will bring great benefits to Ukraine.”

Norway previously sent a total of 4,000 anti-tank missiles, some military equipment and various protection vehicles to Ukraine, the defense ministry said.
