The Chinese Navy dispatched two new Type-055-class destroyers to participate in night-time drills at sea.
Navy China has not yet announced the commissioning of two Type-055-class destroyers Anshan and Wuxi. However, the two warships recently participated in a night search and rescue exercise with the destroyer Lhasa of the same class, China’s CCTV channel reported on April 21.
CCTV did not report the location of the drills of the Type-055 destroyer group, but photos on social media showed the ships moving in the Yellow Sea last week.
Zhao Shugan, the captain of the destroyer Wuxi, said the crew was evaluated day and night. The assessment runs from the ship’s departure to the time it arrives at port.

With a displacement of 12,000 tons, the Type-055 is the world’s second largest destroyer class, after the US Zumwalt class. The Chinese Navy plans to commission eight ships of this class.
The Type-055 warships are designed to join the Type-002-class carrier escort group developed by China. The Type 055 destroyer can launch cruise missiles, anti-ship missiles, anti-aircraft missiles and anti-submarine torpedoes.
Chinese media in July 2020 reported that some of this country’s warships were equipped with turbocharger generator advanced with a capacity of 20 megawatts, can operate energy-intensive weapons such as laser weapons and electromagnetic artillery.
A military source close to the Chinese navy said that the ships equipped with high-power generators include the 8th Type 055 destroyer and a number of ships of the same class. The new equipment will quadruple the power generation capacity of the ship and can help the ship use an all-electric propulsion system.
