Lawmakers on the House panel invited Trump Jr. voluntarily speak to investigators. They did not issue subpoenas.
The final date for his appearance has yet to be scheduled. The source said the meeting will not take place this week.
An attorney for Trump Jr. did not respond to multiple requests for comment.

In December, the House committee released text messages showing Trump Jr. texted the then White House Chief of Staff. Mark Meadows during the riots on January 6, 2021, urged him to convince the president to summon the mob of Trump supporters who stormed the Capitol.
Other members of the Trump family recently appeared before the committee.
Ivanka Trump, the former president’s daughter and a senior White House adviser in the Trump administration, spent about eight hours this month testifying online before Committee. Her husband, Jared Kushner, is also a former White House adviser, testified end of last month.
