The arrest warrant concerns more than 15 million euros suspected to be payments between Mr Ghosn’s Renault-Nissan alliance and an Omani company. Mr. Ghosn was arrested by Japanese authorities on charges of financial fraud in November 2018, including making false statements about income and abusing trust for personal gain.

Mr. Ghosn holds three French, Lebanese and Brazilian citizenship. The former Nissan chairman fled Japan at the end of 2019 to Lebanon while on bail awaiting trial. Lebanon is a country that does not have an extradition treaty with Japan.

Ghosn led Nissan for two decades and created one of the world’s largest automotive alliances with the automakers Renault (France) and Mitsubishi Motors (Japan). In November 2018, he was arrested by Japanese authorities on charges of financial fraud, including failing to declare the remuneration he received about 9 billion yen ($83 million) over eight years and abuse of money. Credits use money of Nissan to serve personal interests. Mr Ghosn has denied all charges.
