AmericaThe flagship sedan of the German company entered a new generation with a series of important changes, enhancing the comfort of rear-seat passengers.

The battle in the luxury segment has increased to another level with the introduction of the new generation BMW 7 series (G70), which is aimed squarely at the Mercedes S-class rival. BMW seems to want to make sure that the world will notice its flagship sedan with a series of changes, although the newness can be controversial.

Alike X7 upgraded version, the new 7 series has a large kidney grille, but the headlights are separated into two parts. The slim daytime running light strip is close to the bonnet, while the main light cluster is located lower.

Another impressive appearance is the type of door handles that are recessed into the body, and open with the push of a button, next to another attention-grabbing point is the chrome-plated C-pillar. In addition, customers can choose a two-tone car paint.

BMW offers an M Sport or M Sport Professional equipment package for customers who want to increase the sportiness of the 7 series, with some features such as M Sport brakes with blue or black brake discs, a small rear spoiler.

The new generation 7 Series also increases in size significantly. The overall length has increased by 126 mm, and now reaches 5,400 mm, making the standard 2023 version close to the stretched version in the old generation. And although the standard wheelbase is now 3,200 mm, just 5 mm more than the old generation, but helps increase usable space in the rear half of the car. Luggage capacity increased from 515 liters to 541 liters.

The new generation luxury sedan uses a series of new technologies, such as unlocking via smartphone, the option of automatic door opening and closing. The cabin has a familiar look with its curved digital gauges, touchscreen infotainment system, and the latest iDrive8 software. Like the rival S-class, the 7 series is equipped with 5G connectivity that allows passengers to watch videos on online platforms such as YouTube.

What appeared for the first time was the type of interaction design (Interaction Bar) – a color sensor strip across the dashboard, integrated with buttons to control many features.

But for many series 7 owners, what happens in the back is more important than in the front. In addition to the voice control support feature applied to the rear passengers for the first time, the most impressive is the 31-inch screen option hanging on the ceiling.

When passengers activate theater mode, the large TV screen is lowered, the curtains are raised, and the seats and lights are adjusted to suit the movie-going experience. The rear seats can also recline 42.5 degrees.

Passengers in the rear seats have their own digital controls with a 5.5-inch touch screen located in the door, which looks like a smartphone. The system can make calls, with optional separate speakers integrated in the headrests if passengers are willing to pay to upgrade from the Bowers & Wilkins Hi-Fi 18-speaker system to the 36-speaker Diamond Surround Sound.

These changes of the 7 series are controversial because they are increasingly pampering and fondling passengers in the backseat like rival Mercedes, which is not traditional for BMW. Customers who like BMW’s sporty DNA want the company to focus not on small comforts, but on performance.

The new generation BMW 7 series has an electric motor version for the first time – model i7. The internal combustion engine version is 40 horsepower more powerful than the old generation. The low-end model 740i uses a 3-liter, turbocharged, in-line 6-cylinder engine with the support of a 48 V mild-hybrid system, with a capacity of 375 horsepower and 540 Nm of torque. Selling price from 93,300 USD.

760i xDrive version with 4-wheel drive, V8 engine, also with 48 V mild-hybrid system, capacity of 536 horsepower and torque of 750 Nm. Selling price 113,600 USD.

There is no longer a V12 engine version in the 7 series. Therefore, the i7 xDrive60 electric motor version becomes the most advanced version, priced from 119,300 USD.

The BMW 7 series will go on sale in the US from this winter, but the German automaker has accepted pre-orders for the i7 from April 20.
