The oldest meteor shower will appear in the sky of Vietnam

Vietnamese people will be able to observe the most dense rain on the Lyrids ice in 2 nights on April 22 and 23.

Tonight (March 22) and tomorrow night (March 24), astronomy lovers in Vietnam will have the opportunity to observe the Lyrids meteor shower.

The Lyrids are meteor showers caused by debris from the comet C/1861 G1 Thatcher burned up as it entered the Earth’s atmosphere.

This is a meteor shower that usually appears at the end of April every year. This year, the peak of the Lyrids meteor shower falls on April 22 and 23, 2022.

The Lyrids meteor shower will appear in the last days of April.

Although the modern scientific world has only officially recognized meteor shower Lyrids in 1861, this meteor shower has been mentioned in ancient documents.

The ancients observed this phenomenon about 2,500 years ago. Therefore, the Lyrids meteor shower is considered one of the oldest meteor showers that humans have ever recorded.

The Lyrids are moderate meteor showers. Observers can see about 20 meteor showers per hour at its peak.

Meteor observers need to choose a place with a clear view, less light pollution.

The best way to see the Lyrids meteor shower is after midnight. Viewers can look to the northeast, the position of the constellation Lyra. For easy viewing, the viewer should lie down and look straight up and across the wide sky.

Traffic, street lights and tall buildings in urban areas will cause light pollution and obstruct visibility. Therefore, astronomy lovers need to choose an open place, far from the streets to observe the meteor shower.

Weather conditions will also affect observations. However, the weather in the south and north tonight and tomorrow is quite favorable for observing meteors.
