This is a beautiful painting and has a lot of historical value, when there is a wooden stamp on it, confirming that it used to belong to the personal collection of painter To Ngoc Van. However, due to bad luck, the painting was only offered for more than 20,000 Euros (about 500,000 million VND).

Ms. Le Thi Luu (1911 – 1988) was the first female painter of modern Vietnamese art. At a time when women were still heavily influenced by feudalism, she decided to enter the Indochina Fine Arts College and persuaded her family to take painting classes… nude. After graduating as valedictorian of the 3rd class of Indochina Fine Arts College, her name is well known.

In the 1940s, Le Thi Luu went to France with her husband, Ngo The Tan, and a number of other Vietnamese painters such as Mai Thu, Le Pho and Vu Cao Dam.

In the 1950s, Le Thi Luu immersed herself in Vietnamese cultural roots, mainly painting with ink and gouache on silk. Her favorite subjects are Vietnamese women and children, whose radiant faces she portrays in a particularly authentic way.
