Bombing of a mosque in Afghanistan, 33 people were killed
A bomb explosion occurred during prayers on April 22 at a mosque in the city of Kunduz, northern Afghanistan, killing 33 people and injuring dozens more.
According to Reuters news agency, Taliban government spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid confirmed the death toll on Twitter, and said 43 others were also injured in the explosion.
“The perpetrators of these incidents are … bad actors, and serious efforts are being made to arrest and punish them,” Mujahid said.

No organization has yet claimed responsibility for the bombing. It is considered one of the largest attacks in Afghanistan since the Taliban took power in August 2021.
Previously, the self-proclaimed Islamic State of Afghanistan (ISIS-K) organization claimed responsibility for the April 21 bombing of a Shi’ite mosque in the city of Mazar-i-Sharif, killing at least 12 people were killed and more than 58 were injured.
The Taliban have vowed to ensure security in Afghanistan since coming back to power, but international officials and analysts say the risk of an outbreak of violence in the country remains.
