Chinese teenager controversial about traditional medicine to treat Covid-19

Vuong Tu Thong, the son of China’s top billionaire, caused controversy on Weibo after doubting the effectiveness of Lien Hoa Thanh Wen’s Covid-19 treatment.

Vuong Tu Thong last week posted a video on his Weibo account, which has more than 40.5 million followers, expressing doubt that the drug has been recommended by the World Health Organization (WHO) to treat Covid-19. -19 or not. The post received more than 33,000 comments, with many Weibo users praising DXY for “bravely” making the announcement. However, some people criticized DXY for “denigrating traditional Chinese medicine and worshiping Western medicine”.

Weibo has not yet responded to a request for comment on the posting ban on Wang Si Thong.

Vuong Tu Thong, 34, often shows off his lavish lifestyle on social media. According to the manufacturer, Lien Hoa Thanh On is based on a recipe from the Han Dynasty, containing herbs such as honeysuckle, Japanese honeysuckle, ephedra and pine root. The drug was developed in 2003 to treat severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS).

Lien Hoa Thanh Wen was included in China’s list of Covid-19 treatment guidelines in April 2020 for symptoms of fever, cough, and mild to moderate fatigue. In Hong Kong, the medicine is put in an anti-epidemic toolbox and distributed to people throughout the city.

The US National Institutes of Health says the drug may help relieve symptoms, but cannot conclude its overall effectiveness against Covid-19.
