Viewed from the front, Ngo Mon has almost only 3 main doors. But in fact, Ngo Mon has a total of 5 gates. In which, the middle door is called Chinh Mon, the two sides are Dong Trac Mon and Tay Trac Mon, the two outermost doors are Dich Mon side doors.

Of course, not everyone can go through Ngo Mon Gate, but there are strict regulations. Accordingly, only 5 people can pass through Chinh Mon. The first is the Emperor. The Emperor is the owner of the Royal Palace, is the most powerful person in the world and he can go in and out of Chinh Mon anytime, anywhere.

Who is allowed to go through Ngo Mon?

Next is the Queen. The Empress and the Emperor performing the wedding ceremony must go from Chinh Mon Ngo Mon to the Royal Palace. However, from then on, the Empress could not go to the Royal Palace by Chinh Mon anymore.

What to do if the Empress and the Emperor leave the palace to go on patrol? The Emperor will come out from the Main Gate of the Ngo Mon Gate as usual. Meanwhile, the Empress must go out by Than Vu Mon in Bac Mon, not Ngo Mon.

During the Qing Dynasty, there were only 5 emperors who held a great wedding in the Forbidden City, including: Emperor Thuan Tri, Emperor Khang Hi, Emperor Dong Tri, Emperor Quang Tu and the last Emperor was Pu Nghi. Accordingly, only 5 empresses were granted the privilege of entering the palace with Chinh Mon Ngo Mon.

Emperor Dong Tri’s empress, A Lo De Thi, and Empress Dowager Cixi had an uneasy relationship. Tu Hi intends to abolish the Empress, so he came to negotiate with Prince Don, Prince Dich Tong – Head of Tong Nhan Phu.

However, Dich Tong mocked and said: “If you want to dethrone someone who entered from Dai Thanh Mon, you must have someone who has also entered the palace with Dai Thanh Mon”. Empress Dowager Cixi was able to enter the Royal Palace by means of an elite selection. She had never had the privilege of going through Chinh Mon, so she could only speak and remain silent.

During the Qing Dynasty, Chinh Mon Ngo Mon was called Dai Thanh Mon. Besides the Emperor and Empress, the next people to pass through Chinh Mon are Poinsettia, Ban Nhan and Tham Hoa.

When the imperial court held an exam, all candidates had to enter the Royal Palace through the two side doors of Dich Mon. At the end of the contest, 3 contestants who won the status of Trang Nguyen – Bang Nhan – Tham Hoa can proceed to the palace from Chinh Mon Ngo Mon to receive the ceremony of consecration. As for the contestants with lower level titles, they have to go by Dich Mon to enter the Forbidden City.

Except for the above 5 people who are Emperor, Empress, Poinsettia, Ban Nhan, Tham Hoa, regardless of Prince, Monarch or other royal family, they are not allowed to step foot through Chinh Mon Ngo Mon.

Accordingly, the royal princes who entered the palace by the Tay Trac Mon and the civil and martial arts officials of the Three Grades and above to advance to the dynasty would be allowed to go by the Dong Trac Mon. As for the mandarins from the third grade and below, they can only go through the two outermost gates of Ngo Mon, which is Dich Mon.
