Before that, the patient felt unusually problematic for a long time. However, because he is afraid of Covid-19, Mr. N. does not go to the doctor, sometimes just buys medicine to drink.

But recently, he noticed that his abdomen was swollen, he could feel the tumor inside with his hands, and it was painful. At Huu Nghi Hospital, Mr. N. underwent diagnostic tests and found a tumor in the retroperitoneum. Tumor attached to kidney, spine, pelvis. The patient was screened for evaluation and indicated for surgery.

Doctor Nguyen Hong Long – Department of General Surgery, Huu Nghi Hospital informed that the tumor occupies half of the patient’s right abdomen, approximately 20cm.

According to Dr. Long, such large tumors in the elderly are quite rare. Doctors performed surgery to remove this tumor and preserve all nearby organs. Currently, the patient’s condition is stable, and the patient is expected to be discharged from the hospital next week.

Therefore, doctors recommend that people should have regular health checks to help detect diseases and unusual health problems to increase the likelihood of successful treatment.

Previously, in Hanoi, there was also a case where a patient had surgery for kidney cancer 14 years ago but subjectively did not go for regular health check-ups, so when abnormal symptoms appeared, the tumor grew to a larger size. up to about 20 cm in size.

The patient was diagnosed with recurrent kidney cancer and had to have a second surgery in poor health. The patient is Mrs. KTL, 71 years old, residing in Quoc Oai, Hanoi.

When palpating a hard lump in the abdomen with pain, severe weight loss, the patient was taken by his family to the Hanoi Oncology Hospital.

In particular, the patient weighs just over 30 kg and is in poor health. Without surgery, the tumor will grow to compress and invade surrounding organs, causing pain, hindering digestion, making the patient’s health increasingly exhausted. More worrying is the high metastasis potential, poor prognosis.

After the surgery lasting more than 3 hours, the doctors removed the recurrent kidney tumor, the part of the iliac muscle, the spleen, the left half of the colon, and restored the digestive circulation, connecting the transverse colon to the rectum. colon.

Having removed the kidney tumor, the patient’s health recovered quickly, 2 days after surgery, he was able to move gently on his own. After 4 days, the patient was able to eat and drink again.
