Sightseeing train carrying 26 people in Japan is missing

Public broadcaster NHK reported that the Japanese coast guard on April 23 was searching for a sightseeing boat carrying 26 people that went missing off the northern Japanese island of Hokkaido.

Officials lost contact after the crew of the “KAZU I” reported water overflowing to the stern and the ship began to sink. The crew of “KAZU I” said that everyone on the cruise ship was wearing life jackets.

There were a total of 24 passengers, including 2 children, as well as 2 crew members on board the scenic cruise ship that crashed.

The Coast Guard received a report from the ship “KAZU I” at 1:15 local time. At 8pm on the same day, the force said there was still no information about the fate of the people on the ship. The ship reported a 30-degree tilt around 3 p.m. before losing contact, Kyodo said.

The ship “KAZU I” once sailed to the Shiretoko Peninsula area, in the north of Japan’s northernmost island, and was said to be sightseeing near Kashinu Falls, NHK said.
