Danya Glenny (42) held a wedding ceremony at The Springs Club in Longwood City, Seminole County, Florida on February 19. The wedding party has the participation of 30-40 guests. Food at the wedding was handled by caterer Jocelyn Bryant (31 years old).

Police received a report from a man (41 years old) who was a guest at Glenny’s wedding. This person said he “feels strange” while attending the bride’s happy day. Speaking to police, the man stressed he felt “like drugs in his body”, even though he only ate food and drank alcohol at the wedding.

Police officers also noted that many wedding guests said they felt euphoric while dining at the wedding. One visitor also told police he was “going to sue” those responsible for the cannabis-infused food.

A report from the Seminole City Police Department confirmed many people had become ill and complained of abdominal pain, as well as vomiting. Some were even admitted to South Seminole Hospital by the time police arrived at the wedding venue.

There, police asked the bride Glenny if she knew the food was mixed with marijuana, and she “glared” at the officer and made an “emotionless face” before saying “No”.

But caterer Bryant and the cooking team left the wedding before police could arrive to question her.

Police officers then collected many food samples from the wedding party for examination and evidence to determine the crime. Of these, pasta and a piece of bread tested positive for THC, according to the police report.

THC is the main and active ingredient in cannabis. This substance is found in the leaves and flowering parts of the cannabis plant. THC acts on the nervous system, affecting people’s feelings by creating “highs”, excitement and relaxation.

Worth mentioning, when mixing cannabis with food, THC tends to increase potency and strength. At this point, THC is slowly absorbed into the bloodstream through the digestive system. In addition, food can prolong the response of THC. If a person smokes marijuana, the effects of THC last from 45 minutes to several hours, while food lasts from 6 to 8 hours.

THC can alter thinking, memory, and perception of time, and cause hallucinations or delusions. The immediate effects of THC can be felt just 10 – 30 minutes after consumption.

Both Glenny and the caterer Bryant were arrested by police on April 18, two months after the wedding. However, on the same day, two people were released on bail. The police are continuing to investigate further before accusing Ms. Glenny and Ms. Bryant of guilty of reprehensible negligence and distribution of marijuana.
