Mother and daughter have a serious illness and share each meal at the hospital

Mother and daughter both have a serious illness

The disease got worse, the pain was constantly tormenting, the blood from the roots of the teeth kept flowing, so Nguyen Dai Sang (13 years old, living in Nguyet Ang village, Tan Ninh commune, Quang Ninh district, Quang Binh province) could only sit still. hospital bed, holding a small basin full of blood. Her face was wrinkled, smeared with blood, her tear-soaked eyes sometimes looked up at her mother as if to ask for help. “Mom, I’m sick, I’m tired.”

Then, as if exhausted, Sang fell asleep on his mother’s shoulder.

Laying her son down on the bed and hastily collecting the blood-soaked tissues, Nguyen Thi Lieu (54 years old, Sang’s mother) sighed when she mentioned her son’s unfortunate fate. 15 days after giving birth, Sang had bleeding around the navel. Although they tried many ways but could not stop the bleeding, Ms. Lieu and her husband brought their child to the hospital and were dumbfounded when the doctor concluded that their son had Von Willebrand’s disease (a blood clotting disorder).

Sang was diagnosed with a blood disorder.

“The doctor said this is a serious disease that will probably follow my son for the rest of his life. Since then, for the past 13 years, his life has depended on the hospital. Every time the disease gets worse, the blood from My hands, feet and teeth are constantly bleeding. I still have blood in my bowels for many days because of stomach bleeding. On average, I have to have a blood transfusion once a week. I live on other people’s blood.

Each child’s treatment lasts 2 to 3 months before being able to visit home. For nearly a dozen Tet holidays, my mother and I did not return, and we spent Tet at the hospital. Seeing my children have to fight with pain and needles every day makes me sad and helpless.” Ms. Lieu shared.

Mrs. Lieu, suffering from a serious illness, still fights for her life with her son.

6 years ago, while taking care of her child in the hospital, Mrs. Lieu felt a dull ache in her stomach, eating less, sleeping less, and having yellow skin. When she went to the doctor, the doctor concluded that she had cirrhosis of the liver.

Ms. Lieu was diagnosed with grade 4 cirrhosis.

“I have grade 4 cirrhosis. For many years I have been taking care of my baby and hospitalized myself. Last year I had gallstones, so I had to have my gallbladder removed. Now I just eat something strange. I had to go to the emergency room again, my stomach was abnormally large, I had to go to the emergency room continuously, but I was still embarrassed to take care of my baby.” Mrs. Lie sighed.

Lieu and her husband have four children together. Sang is the youngest child in the family and is also the most disadvantaged and unhappiest when suffering from a serious illness. The economy depends on 2 acre field, to have money to cover life, to support a sick wife and children, although he is 63 years old, Mr. Nguyen Dai Sao (Sang’s father) still struggles to work as hired laborers everywhere. Whoever hires a spare part, sprays pesticides, herbicides, etc., he accepts all of them.

For the past 13 years, Sang persistently lived with a serious illness.

During 13 years of holding their child in hospital, Mrs. Lieu and her husband borrowed over 100 million VND, so far unable to pay, difficulties piled up.

Sang’s family is a chronically poor household in the commune.

“Looking at the situation of the mother and daughter, Mrs. Lieu is very poor. Even though she is sick, she takes more medicine than rice, but she still skips breakfast all morning, only buying food for her children. Lunch and dinner she only buys a set of rice. She asked for a little more rice, waited until her son finished eating, then ate the rest.

Many times, when I saw Sang, he vomited all his blood and was very hurt. I want to help, but my family is in the same situation, and it’s difficult, so I can’t help,” Ms. Nguyen Hien (a family member taking care of the child next to her) shared.

Asked about his dream, Sang raised his tired, blood-stained face and replied, “I wish to be healthy so that I can go back to school, to return home. I miss home, I miss my father very much. I want to go home to my mother. I can eat a full meal.In the hospital, my mother always has to eat leftovers from me.

I wish to recover from the disease so that later I can learn to cut hair and earn money to treat my mother’s illness. Even though the mother is seriously ill, she still has to take care of her grandchildren. I love her so much, but there’s nothing I can do to help her.”

Sang wished to be healthy so that she could return home, so that she could eat full meals.

Mr. Nguyen Dai Tan (head of Nguyet Ang village, Tan Ninh commune) shared that Ms. Lieu’s family is a chronically poor household in the commune. Both mother and daughter Lieu suffered from a serious illness that could not be treated. Mr. Sao himself is old but still struggling to work as hired laborers everywhere. Children also do not have stable jobs. The life and future of Mrs. Lieu’s mother and daughter are in dire need of everyone’s help.
