Khanh Lan recalled: More than a year ago, her family discovered that her husband had a “monster” disease. From the time of treatment until now, Mr. Son has undergone 8 times of chemotherapy, his body gradually weakened because he could not absorb the drug.

One month ago, Mr. Son showed signs of shortness of breath, Mrs. Lan and family members took him to the hospital and then transferred to Cho Ray Hospital. Ironically, here Mr. Son was infected with Covid-19, after 3 weeks he recovered, but the post-Covid-19 sequelae made his illness worse.

“Relatives, family members or even the doctor who treated my husband said that he had to prepare mentally because… But I really didn’t dare to believe it, thinking that he would make it through.” Ms. Khanh Lan was touched.

Only the family and relatives of the late musician Phan Hong Son clearly understand his medical condition, in addition, very few people know how painful and difficult he is facing in recent times.

When the illness of the late musician Phan Hong Son became worse, Thu Phuong (2nd daughter-in-law) recounted: From the time he was hospitalized until the day his father-in-law died, 48 days. Because during the complicated time of the Covid-19 epidemic, only his mother-in-law came and took care of him.

When his father could no longer speak, a week before when he took his last breath, his two sons visited the hospital, he just showed his arm and shook it.

“In the past, my father used to shake his hand like that, which meant that he lost, he couldn’t save anymore …”, Ms. Thu Phuong said.

According to Ms. Thu Phuong, the late musician Phan Hong Son lived very affectionately with his friends. Although during the treatment period, when he showed signs of good recovery even though it was only for a few days, on the anniversary of the death of old friends, he still arranged to go to Cu Chi cemetery to light incense in memory. Most recently, he also attended the funeral of Mr. Duong Thanh Tung (Former General Director of Ho Chi Minh City Television). Early the next morning he became ill, he was taken to hospital by his family…and died on April 22.

Composer – Outstanding Artist Phan Hong Son was born in 1956, graduated with a major in composition at the Ho Chi Minh City Conservatory of Music. In 1980-1984, he was an officer of the mass cultural movement of the Department of Culture and Information of Ho Chi Minh City (former). In 1988-1996, he went to the Soviet Union to work, then returned to work at the Editorial Board of Saigon Audio Enterprise, Department of Culture and Information. After that, he transferred to Ho Chi Minh City Television Station, holding the position of band leader until retirement.

He wrote many popular songs on radio, television and mass concerts such as: The flute at the communal house, My grandfather, January dating, The piano sound, Grandma is still sitting like that, Khanh Hoi and I… The musician made a mark with songs with lyrical and deep melodies. During his lifetime, he said that he was most interested in the song Story of a teacher written for his wife – Mrs. Nguyen Thi Khanh Lan, a former literature teacher at Bui Thi Xuan High School, Ho Chi Minh City.
