Vung Tau cut down, moved many trees to make parking spots

On April 24, the Construction Investment Project Management Board 2, Vung Tau City said that the project was carried out on Le Hong Phong Street, paved with marble pavement on the entire 2.1 km long route, painted lamp posts. lighting, making flower beds, parking bays… with a total cost of 76 billion VND, expected to be completed in October this year.

In order to have space for parking spaces on the more than 300m-long sidewalk on the side of Vietsovpetro’s 5-storey apartment complex, since the beginning of this year, the construction unit has cut down 39 pens, 2 eagles and 5 star trees. ; 9 trees (planted 27-28 years ago) were relocated. When formed, the positions are nearly 1,300 m2 wide, can accommodate 55 cars, 70 motorbikes and bicycles to park at the same time. According to the approved plan, the parking spots will later be assigned to the People’s Committee of Ward 7 to manage and collect fees.

Mr. Nguyen Trong Thuy, Head of the Urban Management Department of Vung Tau City, said that some trees are diseased, old, and slow to develop. Particularly, in the long run, the city is gradually replaced because of the thick canopy that shields the architecture, or is deep. “Next to the fence of the apartment complex, there are rows of mature oil trees, still ensuring shade for that sidewalk,” Mr. Thuy said and said that the design of the project was appraised by the Department of Construction.

According to Mr. Thuy, the whole city has 17 parking spots, mainly in the area of ​​​​Bai Front and Back Beach. Due to the lack of parking spaces in the central area, Vung Tau City will renovate suitable sidewalks as parking spots, solving the current situation of cars parked on the roadway causing traffic insecurity. The city is renovating some land and using school grounds on holidays and weekends as parking spots, reducing congestion when tourists flock to the east.
