Wu Yanhua, deputy director of the China National Space Administration (CNSA) on April 24, said that China is planning to build an asteroid surveillance and defense system, and time to perform a technology test as early as 2025 or 2026 on a threatening asteroid by closely tracking and impacting to alter its orbit.

“We’re going to start improving our ground- and space-based tracking systems and asteroid early warning systems. To do that, we need to compile a list and analyze which asteroids are there. We also need to research and explore to see if there are suitable techniques to help eliminate the threat,” said Mr. Ngo Diem Hoa.

“Technological experiments in this way will be China’s new contribution to humanity in the future to really deal with the threat of asteroids and extraterrestrial objects to our planet. ta,” said the deputy director of China’s National Space Administration.

The most recent asteroid collision occurred in 2013 in Russia’s Chelyabinsk province, when a near-Earth asteroid about 18 meters in diameter entered the atmosphere and exploded 30 kilometers above the ground. Its destructive power was equivalent to about 30 atomic bombs, injuring more than 1,500 people and damaging more than 3,000 houses.

Russian authorities later confirmed that a meteorite had “hit” Russia and said it proved that the entire planet is vulnerable to meteorites. A space defense system is therefore required to protect the planet from similar objects in the future.

According to Chinese experts, currently the most practical way to avoid such impacts is to hit the threatening asteroid and change its original course. To achieve this, China would need a particularly large anti-aircraft missile, and that would put China at the forefront of the world’s asteroid defense technology.

In addition, China will begin phase 4 of its lunar exploration program this year, including launching the Chang’e 6, 7 and 8 probes to the Moon and building the International Lunar Research Station. China’s key aerospace projects also include sampling near-Earth asteroids, returning Martian rock samples to Earth, and exploring Jupiter over the next four years.
