Two controversial situations in the Liverpool vs Everton match

Everton’s Anthony Gordon was shown a yellow card for a foul in the box in the first half, before falling again in the box in the 53rd minute after a tackle from Liverpool side Joel Matip. However, referee Stuart Attwell quickly waved his hand despite the Everton players demanding a penalty.

After the game, Everton manager Lampard complained: “It was a penalty. If it was Salah in that situation, he would have awarded a penalty. You don’t get that at Anfield. That is sometimes the reality of Soccer. If you look back at that situation through VAR, there are suspicious things going on, maybe that will happen when you go to Anfield.”

On his side, Gordon also pressed: “We could have had a penalty. Sometimes they work against you, that’s football. Apparently Matip stepped on my foot. I overcame him, I prevailed and he stepped on my foot, which caused me severe pain and I fell.”

Meanwhile, coach Jurgen Klopp disagreed with Lampard and said that Gordon was lucky not to receive a second yellow card. The German strategist countered: “The second situation is clearly not a penalty. He’s really good but he’s lucky he didn’t get a second yellow card. The first situation was not a penalty and neither was the second.”

Before that, an incident happened at the end of the first half with players from both sides rushing into each other. Referee Stuart Attwell didn’t notice when Sadio Mane poked Everton defender Mason Holgate in the eye. VAR also did not detect the incident and as a result, the Senegal player only received a yellow card.
