Emmanuel Macron re-elected French president

The results of a series of polls show that Macron (La République En Marche) won about 58% of the vote in the second round, while Le Pen (National Rally) got 42% of the vote.

Ms Le Pen spoke to her supporters in Paris and “admitted defeat”. Even so, she still hailed the vote result as “a victory for her own political movement”, and referred to the parliamentary elections in June.

In the 2017 election, CNBC reported that Macron won with 66.1% of the vote.

On the evening of April 24 (local time), Mr. Macron pledged to his supporters that “will not leave anyone on the side of the road”.

Riot police were seen using tear gas against protesters against Mr Macron’s victory in central Paris.

Macron’s 2022 French presidential re-election campaign is underway amid Russia’s launch of a special military operation in Ukraine.

When he started campaigning, Mr. Macron, 44, benefited from his stance and diplomatic efforts on the Russia-Ukraine war that he pursued. But that support plummeted in the days leading up to the first round of voting on April 10 as French people focused heavily on domestic problems and inflation skyrocketed.
