Excavated more than 42 tons of hazardous waste at Dien Quang Light Bulb Enterprise

Authorities use concrete cutting drills to excavate and determine the amount of hazardous waste dumped here.

Specifically, on April 22 and 23, the Environmental Police Department cooperated with the Criminal Technical Department, Dong Nai Provincial Police, City Police. Bien Hoa and Dong Nai Department of Natural Resources and Environment conducted excavations inside the Lamp Factory, Dien Quang Bulb Joint Stock Company. Thereby, more than 42 tons of hazardous waste were detected, of which there were nearly 15 tons in the concrete tunnel inside the factory, more than 27 tons in the yard outside. The detected waste includes glass pieces contaminated with hazardous waste and wastewater from the grinding process of waste light bulbs.

According to the authorities, the waste light bulb shell contains mercury and sulfur, so it is toxic if not handled according to regulations.

Initially, through a quick test of wastewater, the authorities determined that the pH exceeded 7 times the permitted level. All of this waste is assigned by the competent forces and the Lamp Factory to a unit with the function of treating hazardous waste according to regulations.

It is expected that on April 25, the police force will continue to coordinate with the authorities to excavate at other questionable locations inside the lamp factory to continue expanding the investigation and clarifying.
