This week, the above strategy has been announced some more details, specifically, the 30 vehicles mentioned above use not one but three different chassis dedicated to electric vehicles.
Honda electrification director Shinja Aoyama confirmed to Reuters that the three chassis above serve for electric vehicles in three small, medium and large segments. The compact car chassis will appear from 2024 via an unidentified small commercial vehicle in Japan, followed by several new passenger cars.
Next, a large chassis will be introduced and possibly the previously announced Honda e:Architecture. This chassis will start with an unknown large car segment in North America in 2026, and may also be selected for two mysterious sports cars appearing in the official teaser announced by Honda.
Finally, the chassis for mid-size electric vehicles co-developed by Honda with General Motors will be put into use from 2027 for many “cheap” models, but up to now, the Japanese brand has not decided yet. The core technology of this chassis comes from Honda or GM.
Before that time, Honda had access to the GM Ultium chassis and will use this platform to develop a new pair of SUVs (Honda Prologue and SUV Acura have not yet been named).
