International leaders congratulate French President Macron on his re-election

Second round French Presidential Election ended smoothly with results not much warped compared to opinion polls. With over 58% of the vote, Mr Emmanuel Macron won against rival Marine Le Pen and was re-elected for a second term.

Mr. Emmanuel Macron, 44, was re-elected and will continue to be President of France for the next 5 years. Preliminary and incomplete vote counting results announced at 8pm on April 24 (local time) showed that Mr. Macron won 58% of the total votes. As soon as the election results were announced, Macron’s Republican Progressive Party held a victory rally at the foot of the Eiffel Tower.

On Twitter, US President Joe Biden congratulated President Macron, and emphasized that France “is a key partner in solving global challenges”, expressing Washington’s expectation for close cooperation with Paris. on many issues like Ukraine or fighting climate change.

Chinese President Xi Jinping sent a congratulatory message to the French President.
