But in fact, the Bamyan Buddha statue still has to “tilt” in front of a statue in Thai Nguyen (Son Tay, China), that is Mong Son Dai Buddha with a depth of 17.5 meters and a width of 25 meters. 66 meter high body.

Mong Son Dai Phat has experienced many ups and downs of the times, so the actual height of the statue still has to be based on historical books.

The Tang Dynasty recorded Mong Son Dai Buddha with a height of “200 feet”, which is 63 meters in standard measurement units of today. The statue of Bamyan Buddha is 53 meters high, 10 meters less than Mong Son Dai Buddha.

However, Mong Son Dai Buddha is not the tallest Buddha in the world. With today’s developed technology, it is not impossible to create a statue more than a hundred meters high. The tallest Buddha statue in the world today is Trung Nguyen Dai Buddha in Henan with 153 meters (including 25 meters of pedestal and 20 meters of throne).

However, Trung Nguyen Dai Phat was started construction in 2002 and inaugurated in 2007, so if compared with history with Mong Son Dai Phat built during the Northern and Southern dynasties, it is far behind.

In “Vinh Lac Dai Dien” recorded, Mong Son Dai Buddha was started in the 2nd year of Northern Qi Thien Bao (559), the same date as Khai Hoa Temple. Mong Son Dai Buddha is carved against the mountain behind the pagoda, tall and majestic.

Buddhism flourished most during the Sui Tang period. In the first year of the Sui Dynasty (601), Khai Hoa Tu specialized in building the Buddha’s pavilion to protect the Great Buddha, and at the same time changed its name to Tinh Minh Tu. In the 3rd year of Vu Duc (620), Cao To Ly Uyen Street came to worship Buddha and changed the name of the pagoda to Khai Hoa Tu.

Ly Uyen’s presence brought great honor and fame to Mong Son Dai Phat, thereby spreading among the people.

In the 2nd year of Hien Khanh (657), Cao Tong Ly Tri and Empress Vo Tac Thien came together to Khai Hoa Tu and provided a lot of treasures, from which the temple became even more powerful and famous.

Mong Son Dai Phat encountered turbulence in the life of Duong Vu Tong. He carried out a plan to suppress Buddhism, Kaihua Temple was destroyed, and the giant Buddha statue also fell into oblivion.

In 945, Liu Zhiyuan, Emperor of the Later Han Dynasty restored the Buddha statues.

At the end of the Yuan Dynasty, Khai Hoa Pagoda was burned down again, from here the traces of Mong Son Dai Buddha disappeared from history books, many information that the Buddha statue was destroyed during this time.

In 1385, the Ming Dynasty rebuilt Khai Hoa Tu, but Mong Son Dai Phat was forgotten.

It wasn’t until 1983 that an administrative officer discovered mountainside ruins in the shape of a Buddha, with his head and chest buried in soil and rocks.

In 2006, the local government repaired and reshaped the head of Mong Son Dai Buddha. After 700 years, Mong Son Dai Buddha once again “revived” miraculously, becoming the world’s earliest built large stone Buddha statue.
