Ambassador Russia in the US Anatoly Antonov said the activities of the Russian Embassy in Washington had been “blocked” by the US.
Talking to Rossiya-1 TV channel on April 24, Antonov said: “The embassy is essentially blocked. Bank of America has closed the accounts of our consulates general in Houston and New York.”
The diplomat added that staffers received threats by phone and letter. “There was a period of time, even the exit of the embassy was blocked due to quite large protests. There were acts of vandalism, many people threw paint on the building.”
Attacks on Russian agencies abroad increased after Moscow launched a special military operation in late February.
According to RT, many vehicles of various types rammed the gates of the Russian embassies in Dublin, Ireland and Bucharest, Romania. Protesters in countries like Austria and Latvia also vandalized Russian buildings with paint.
Many countries have imposed massive sanctions on Russia. Several Western countries expelled Russian diplomats and received retaliation from Moscow.
To this day, the Kremlin has demanded that Ukraine officially declare itself a neutral country and will never join the US-led NATO military bloc. Kiev insists the Russian attack is completely unprovoked and denies it is planning to retake the two self-proclaimed republics by force.
