Hiring someone to kidnap children, mother gets 3 years in prison

On April 26, Ms. Chi was convicted of a crime by the People’s Court of Vinh Long province Arresting people illegally Article 157 of the Penal Code. Nguyen Thanh Nhut (22 years old, son of Chi) and 4 others were sentenced to 2-3 years and 6 months in prison for the same crime.

Regarding the case, Tran Diplomacy (32 years old, Ms. Chi’s son-in-law) was sentenced to one year in prison for the crime Murder in a state of high arousal under Article 125 of the Penal Code.

According to the jury, in this case, defendant Chi played the main role and should have received the highest sentence. However, the defendant suffered from a personality disorder, surrendered after committing the crime, and the victim (daughter) asked for a reduction… so the court considered reducing part of the penalty.

As for Giao, the court said that just because he wanted to rescue his wife from a group of kidnappers, he committed a crime that caused one person’s death. However, the defendant’s behavior was temporary, having compensated the victim’s family… so the court applied a light sentence to show the leniency of the law.

Before that, with the last words, Giao apologized to the victim’s family and asked the jury to consider mitigating the penalty to have conditions to take care of his wife and newborn child…

The judgment determined that, at the beginning of 2020, Giao married 31-year-old Hang, but Ms. Chi objected. Giao and his wife took each other to their hometown in Long An commune, Long Ho district, Vinh Long province, opened a coffee shop, and lived.

Ms. Chi had her daughter cut off her monthly allowance after getting married, so she didn’t want her to live with Giao. She also thought that the child was “bewitched” so she brought money and property to her husband.

On November 14, 2020, Chi hired Tran Le Van Thinh, 28 years old, to give 10 million VND in advance, to go to Vinh Long to catch Hang back to Ba Ria – Vung Tau. Thinh invited 4 more accomplices to bring weapons, pepper spray, electric whips… to go to Vinh Long by 7-seat car, under the guidance of Nguyen Thanh Nhut (who has the same mother as Hang).

At noon the next day, this group brought a weapon to a cafe to arrest Hang. Thinh held a can of pepper spray and sprayed it in the face of the shop owner and then pulled her out with his accomplices and put her in the car.

Hearing his wife’s cry for help, from the back house, Giao ran up with a 1.5 m long iron spear (used to peel dried coconut). This man stabbed Thinh once, causing this person to die and chased and stabbed two other people to be injured, to rescue his wife. After committing the crime, Giao surrendered to the police.

Initially, Giao was prosecuted by the Vinh Long Provincial Police for crimes Killing under Clause 2, Article 123 of the Penal Code, but then changed the crime.
