PSG demonstrated their superiority in Ligue 1 when enough championship points four laps early. But that’s the only title they’ve won this season, so eliminated by Real in the 1/8 Champions League round, lost to Nice in the 1/8 round of the National Cup – Coupe de France and Lille in the French Super Cup match – Trophee des Champions.

Therefore, comprehensive reform is the goal that the ambitious owners of the French team set for the upcoming summer. While coach Mauricio Pochettino and Technical Director Leonardo are likely to leave, the future of Lionel Messi is being considered. The Argentine striker will enter the final year of his contract with the French team next season, and if desired, PSG has the right to activate a one-year extension clause.

Messi joined the Parc des Princes team in August 2021. The 34-year-old striker has scored four goals and assisted 13 times in 22 Ligue 1 games, and five goals in seven Champions League games. But that is too little compared to PSG’s expectations. Unlike when he was at Barca, Messi had little say in important matches, even missing a penalty in the first leg against Real.

However, according to Sky Sportsthe majority of opinions in the PSG leadership believe that Messi can still be at the center of PSG’s play next season, in the context that Kylian Mbappe is likely to switch to Real when his contract expires in June.

Otherwise, Neymar was given the green light to leave on condition of receiving a reasonable fee. In 2017, the French team spent $263 million to break Neymar’s contract with Barca. To date, this is still the record transfer for a player.

Another star who could also leave the Parc des Princes is Messi’s compatriot, Angel Di Maria, after his contract expires this summer. As a goalkeeper, PSG want to keep Gianluigi Donnarumma, and that means Keylor Navas will leave.
