The tragic drowning incident that occurred on the afternoon of April 25th took the lives of four students of grade 8D at Nghia Loc Commune Secondary School (Nghia Dan District, Nghe An). At that time, a group of students pulled together to the Khe Giang dam area (Tan Huu hamlet, Nghia Loc commune, Nghia Dan district) to play, unfortunately 4 children drowned and died.
The dam, where the heartbreaking incident took place, drowned four female students.
Confiding to reporters, Dang Thi Thuy Tien (born in 2008, living in Thinh Hong village, Nghia Loc commune) has not yet stopped feeling sad and panicking. She said: “When I saw 5 friends swimming in the water, I was very scared. I looked around and grabbed a pole for Mai to cling to, then I pulled her ashore…”.
Tien recalled, around 14:30, on April 25, a group of 8 students invited each other to the Khe Giang dam to play. 15 minutes later, NHG went down to the dam to wash his feet, but unfortunately slipped and fell into the deep water. At this time, 4 other friends rushed to rescue you, but unfortunately 3 of you were also swept away by the current.

“At that time, I was standing on the shore, seeing that my friends were in danger, so I tried to run down to the shore of the dam to help. I was lucky to cling to a nearby tree so I didn’t fall into the water. Then, I ran ashore to find a pole and then turned around and gave it to my friend Mai to grab and pull it ashore.After that, I ran down to a nearby house to call my uncles to save my friends. I don’t see you anymore, and Mai is too scared to sit alone …” – Tien hugged her face and sobbed as she remembered the fateful moment that took the lives of her friends.
Tien’s father, Dang Van Tien, said that after the incident, he took his son to his grandparents’ house, but his son’s spirit was still broken. “I was very scared and refused to eat or drink. I couldn’t sleep all that night, so I huddled alone in the corner of the bed. The incident was too painful,” Tien shared.

Mr. Ngo Sy Cuong – Chairman of the People’s Committee of Nghia Loc Commune, Nghia Dan Nghe An, said that at about 6pm on the same day (April 25), the bodies of all four students were found. They are all students of class 8D Nghia Loc Secondary School. The local government has done the necessary procedures to hand over the body to the families for burial according to local custom.
“This morning (April 26), representatives of the local government and education sector came to burn incense to offer condolences to families whose children unfortunately drowned,” added Mr. Cuong.
