Traditional tents with poles sometimes make it difficult for users to install. This is one of the reasons why the inflatable tent was born. American company Aerogogo developed the Giga tent that makes setting up even simpler with the ability to inflate itself in minutes, New Atlas reported on April 23.
Most inflatable tents require the user to connect the pump to the tent, then inflate the tent frame manually. This job is not complicated, but it also takes more time when setting up camp.
To overcome this problem, Giga has built-in a battery-powered electric pump. Users only need to spread the tent on the ground and then start the machine with a button. It will continue to inflate the tent frame at a rate of about 20 liters of air per minute. The pump stops automatically after 3 minutes, when the tent is fully inflated. The pump is IPX5 waterproof, so it can withstand rain. With a 2,000 mAh lithium battery and 5 hours of charging time, it works 30 times before needing to be recharged.
When collapsed, the tent is as big as a backpack measuring 50 cm x 20 cm x 20 cm and weighs 3.6 kg. When inflated, the tent is 210 cm long on each side and 136 cm high, with an interior area of 4.8 square meters. According to Aerogogo, the tent can accommodate two adults and two children. The tent cover is made of a thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU) composite with polyester fabric. The tent can withstand a level 7 wind.
Aerogogo is opening a crowdfunding campaign on the Kickstarter website to develop Giga. If produced and put on the market, the expected selling price of this tent is 399 USD.
