A practical business idea to reduce waste is working effectively in Egypt, which is connecting the need to sell surplus fresh food from restaurants, to buyers who are households.
The app, called Tekeya, has a feature that allows restaurants to donate leftovers to charities and social protection centers. The app saved 40,000 meals last year.
Currently, the operating model of the application only connects the restaurant to the customer. In the near future, the development team will expand more features to help connect with supermarkets. Through that, the supermarket can sell at a subsidized price or donate food at the end of the day to people in need.
