Another Hanoi school accused of ‘forcing’ students to write applications not to take the 10th grade: Careers are not forced!

Social networks continue to stir up before a parent in Soc Son district, Hanoi said that he had just been “forced” by the school to write an application for his child not to take the public 10th grade exam.

Specifically, this parent said: “My daughter came back this month to say that she wouldn’t take the exam for 10th grade. Last Saturday, my homeroom teacher also called me to tell me that she raised her hand voluntarily and didn’t take the exam.

I did not agree, but frankly discussed that, every parent has the desire for their child to take the exam to try and know how capable they are. As long as you try your best, pass or fail, then consider what and where you want to study.

For children to study from kindergarten to the end of 9th grade, there is only one exam but no exam, even the family has no right to force them like that.

However, the last day I took the voluntary form not to take the high school exam for the school year 2021-2022 and asked for a signature, which I found extremely inhibited.“.

The share of the male parent caused a stir in public opinion

According to this parent, the content of the application has the following paragraph: “I am making this application to present to the teachers. My child is… has completed the secondary school program but does not want to take the entrance exam to high school. So I am making this application to ask for him not to participate in the 10th grade exam. High School (2021-2022), so that I can go to vocational school, I hope teachers will create conditions for me and my family“.

It is known that D.’s son is currently studying at Phu Cuong Secondary School, Soc Son district and not long ago a vocational secondary school went to the school to advise students on career orientation.

Talking to PV Infonet about this issue, a representative of Phu Cuong Secondary School, Soc Son district confirmed that the school has no policy of forcing students not to take the exam to grade 10.

I have not received information about parents on social networks, but currently the school has not implemented anything and does not have a policy to force students to write an application not to take the exam to 10th grade.

Everything is voluntary by students and families. A few days ago, there was a vocational school about counseling and vocational education, but no one forced students“, the representative of Phu Cuong Secondary School said.

Vocational training does not mean coercion

According to Dr. Hoang Ngoc Vinh – former Director of the Department of Professional Education (Ministry of Education and Training), streamlining is being considered an important solution to help students enter vocational training early to succeed in the labor market. However, this is completely voluntary of the learner and of the student’s family, not forced.

“I prefer to use the word ‘initiate’ students. Specifically, how can vocational schools attract students with quality training. That is, vocational training to have skills and jobs.

In addition, the recruitment market must also have a demand for students who learn a job after 9th grade to get a job when they reach the legal working age. If jobs in the market are incomplete or unattractive, channeling will still face difficulties,” said Dr. Hoang Ngoc Vinh.

According to Dr. Hoang Ngoc Vinh, the ideal streamlining model is a model that combines teaching and integrating applied science subjects with vocational skills. Accordingly, schools should not separate the content of cultural subjects (applied science) from the content of vocational skills training. This will create strong motivation for apprentices, higher program efficiency, and fewer students will drop out of school.

“An ideal model for threading or channeling is vocational training so that students can acquire job skills and have jobs and commensurate incomes. It is clear that the thinking of streamlining approaches needs to be changed in the direction of skills training without too much emphasis on qualifications.

Abroad, people teach integrated in vocational education programs in high schools in some European countries or in technical high schools such as Korea, Finland, USA, Malaysia.

In addition, in the structure of employees’ qualifications, in developed countries, the proportion of workers with high school, vocational or technical high school will reach 45-48% (2020). ). This is also the key workforce to carry out industrialization and modernization of the country. Meanwhile, in our country, the proportion of workers with intermediate qualifications is still too low, only about 10%,” said Dr. Hoang Ngoc Vinh.

Dr. Hoang Ngoc Vinh also noted, in the process of streamlining and career guidance, if the homeroom teacher advises and advises students to learn a profession soon after grade 9, it is very necessary for vocational schools to participate in counseling. This will create objectivity and avoid causing misunderstandings in case the homeroom teacher does not have enough counseling skills.
