The European Commission (EC) on April 27 proposed to suspend the imposition of import duties on all Ukrainian goods for a year and remove the country’s trade protectionism and anti-dumping measures. The EC stated: “This far-reaching step is taken to help boost Ukraine’s exports to the EU. This move will help ease the predicament of producers and export of Ukraine in the face of Russian attack.”

The above tax exemption and EU market access limit for Ukraine will need to receive approval from the European Parliament (EP) and EU member states’ governments before it can take effect.

EC Vice President and Commissioner for Trade Valdis Dombrovskis said that these measures will directly support Ukrainian producers and exporters, thereby instilling confidence in the Ukrainian economy.

In 2021, bilateral trade between EU and Ukraine reached more than 52 billion euros (about 55 billion USD).

In the context that Ukraine’s export cargo route through the Black Sea has been blocked by Russian customs forces, the EU also supports Ukraine in the transport of goods on land by lifting conditions for goods. with the country’s truck drivers, facilitating the transit of goods and the use of EU infrastructure.
