‘Mammoth School’ helps a girl born in 1992 win a place to go to America to study filmmaking

Ngan Zeta (Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan), a 30-year-old girl, excellently surpassed 40 other candidates to win the only place to go to the US to study filmmaking after winning the contest ‘Film Pitching – From script to screen’.

Competition Film Pitch – From script to screen jointly organized by VFDA and MPA, took place on the afternoon of April 26. The contest started in 2020 and was postponed 3 times because of the Covid-19 epidemic until April 26, when it was held in Hanoi. From 41 project ideas, the organizers selected 10 best authors to present.

The film projects all have rich and diverse content with themes about love, life, traditional culture, food, history, and the Covid-19 pandemic. The authors are all very young, the youngest was born in 1997. Many authors have had experience participating in other national and international competitions.

After intense presentations, finally Ma Mut School, The only script for an animated film by author Ngan Zeta was awarded the highest award, winning a place to participate in a short film making course in the US. Project Self-help Van Doan by Doan Tat Dat, although director Phan Dang Di rated it as the most interesting project among the finalists, only runner-up.

Mr. Stephen P. Jenner – Regional Director in charge of Media for Asia-Pacific of the Motion Picture Association of America (MPA) – member of the jury shared with the film project authors: “Hopefully people After winning the course in the US, you can learn a part of Hollywood’s film making and bring it back to Vietnam to perform. Don’t consider yourself a contestant and this is a contest where we are colleagues and we hope I want to be with you.”

Dr. Ngo Phuong Lan – Chairman of the Vietnam Association for the Promotion of Motion Picture Development (VFDA) said: “Every movie starts with an idea and having a new, good, unique idea is to ensure an important part of the movie’s success. We hope that the contest will discover new talents for Vietnamese cinema. The contest is also an opportunity for young cinema lovers to have the opportunity to interact and learn from American experts. and Vietnam, at the same time learning from each other. I very much look forward to having the film projects in the 10 projects today become good films on the screen, not just on paper.”
