Microsoft uses every trick to make users leave Google to use Bing

When it comes to Internet search engines, Google will usually be the first choice for most users. Meanwhile, not many people know about the existence of other search engines, such as Bing by Microsoft.

In an effort to get people to know and use Bing, an upcoming update of the Microsoft Edge browser will bring this search engine to the menu of the new Sidebar.

According to Windows Latest, the new Sidebar menu on the Microsoft Edge browser has started rolling out to users in the browser’s Canary channel. In addition to the Bing search engine, this menu also allows users to read emails in Outlook, view MSN games… without leaving the website they are using.

However, although you can still send emails, convert units or check Internet speed in the Sidebar menu, users cannot play games because they will open in a new tab. The same goes for Microsoft Office applications like Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.

Vivaldi browser users will feel familiar with the new Sidebar menu on Microsoft Edge because it works in a similar way to Vivaldi’s web panel. Both are quite useful when you need to perform a quick task without wanting to open a new tab or separate window.

Since the new Sidebar menu hasn’t been released to the public yet, many websites are still not optimized to work in the smaller display space. This is likely to change as more Microsoft Edge users start using the feature.

For those who do not want to use the Sidebar on Microsoft Edge, it can be turned off by using the keyboard shortcut Ctrl + Shift + /. To re-enable the feature, users can use this same set of shortcuts.
